Primary Thyroid Lymphomas: A Report of Five Cases

Hajar Haoufadi, Mohamed Chehbouni, Youssef Rochdi, Hassan Nouri and Abdelaziz Raji

Article Type: Case Series | First Published: February 12, 2020

Primary thyroid gland lymphoma is a rare condition, accounting for only 2% of extranodal lymphomas, usually occurring in patients with autoimmune thyroiditis. Among these lymphomas, B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma is the most frequently encountered, while Hodgkin’s disease and T-cell lymphomas are extremely rare. Through this paper, we report 5 primary thyroid lymphoma cases, diagnosed in our department in a period of 6 years (Jan 2012 to Dec 2017), all of them were B-cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphomas. P...

Dog Scratch Fever Secondary to Capnocytophaga Species in a Patient Without Risk Factors

Linda C Klumpp, MD, Gustine Liu-Young, MD, James Craig, MD, Leonard Hamera, MD, Jeffrey Jordan, MD, Srinivas Dantuluri, DO and Sunoj Abraham, MD

Article Type: Case Report | First Published: February 12, 2020

Capnocytophaga is a rare bacteria found in the saliva of canines. C. canimorsus is present in the oral cavity of 67-86% of dogs. In vitro growth requires specialized media. Patients who are immunocompromised are at greatest risk for infection. There are no clinical trials examining the duration of antibiotics. Capnocytophaga species is a very rare fastidious, slow growing gram negative rod found in the saliva of canines and felines. It belongs to the genus flavobacteriacea, a capnophilic faculta...

Early Blood Brain Barrier Traversal by Trypanosoma Brucei Brucei Strains: A Phenomenon of Laboratory Strains or Field Strains as Well?

Monica Namayanja, Gloria Grace Akurut and George W Lubega

Article Type: Short Communication | First Published: February 08, 2020

Trypanosoma brucei brucei in mice, the experimental model of African Trypanosomiasis, is known to begin crossing the blood-brain barrier between 9-13 days post-infection, which is also considered the commencement of the late stage of the disease. A few recent reports however, reported traversal as early as two hours to a few days. In these reports laboratory strains were used thus this study sought to find out if this early brain invasion is phenomenon of laboratory strains or also field isolate...

Systematization of Functional Training Sessions to Benefit Physical Fitness for Daily Activities in Older People

Antonio Gomes de Resende-Neto and Marzo Edir Da Silva-Grigoletto

Article Type: Editorial | First Published: February 10, 2020

Tools applied today in the Functional Training (FT) have long been used in general fitness programs, but systematic use and scientific interest are recent phenomena. Thus, there are many methodological conflicts and divergences in the prescriptions of this method. For example, some studies have associated FT with the use of instability in many exercises, while others use unstable bases in a small portion of training, or simply do not use. Thus, there is still an absence of a systematic FT model ...

Cancer cell presents a dynamic nature that evolves over time in its microenvironment through a complicating molecular and cellular interaction network. Despite the progress already achieved in the imaging technologies and the molecular tools used for tumor cell diagnosis and treatment approaches, metastasis still remains a major hindering factor that limits clinical outcomes. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) present the potential in providing critical information to understand the metastasis proce...

Article Type: Brief Reports | First Published: January 27, 2020

A prospective cohort of a descriptive and analytical study, including sixty-one cases of Palmoplantar erythrodysesthesia in patients treated with capecitabine. The objective of this study is to determine an epidemiological mapping of Palmoplantar erythrodysesthesia in cancer patients on capecitabine treatment and to identify possible risk factors. The incidence of PPE was 64%. The median age of the patients who developed PPE was 54 years. 70% of the cohort was female, breast neoplasia represente...

Late-Life Alzheimer's Disease (AD) Detection Using Pruned Decision Trees

Gopi Battineni, Nalini Chintalapudi and Francesco Amenta

Article Type: Original Research | First Published: February 08, 2020

Machine Learning (ML) is a contemporary technique of artificial intelligence. These methods are exponentially rising in the medical field, especially in diagnosis and disease predictions. The present study was aimed to develop a decision tree model to predict late-life Alzheimer’s disease (AD). A dataset of 150 subjects along with 373 MRI sessions demographic values were considered in this paper. Pruned decision trees (J48) were employed to do predictive analysis on AD subjects. Model validati...

Mixed Zone between Drug-Induced Hyperpigmentation and Generalized Fixed Pigmented Erythema

Tarik Hanafi, Amine Essaoudi, Hicham Titou, Hasna Kerrouch, Rachid Frikh, Naoufal Hjira and Mohammed Boui

Article Type: Case Report | First Published: January 31, 2020

We report a particular case of fixed drug eruption (FDE), in its erythematous and pigmented form, as a fixed pigmented erythema (FPE), which manifests in a generalized form, evolving for three years, and discuss the imputability to piroxicam and the Ramipril/Hydrochlorothiazide combination. Indeed, chronological, semiological, bibliographic criteria, were imprecise and non-discriminatory. We ended up retaining the diagnosis of fixed pigmented erythema (FPE) of particular diffuse presentation ind...
