Dedifferentiation of leiomyosarcoma is a rare phenomenon that associates pleomorphic histology and loss of smooth muscle differentiation. Although the leiomyosarcoma is well known sarcoma in the uterus, and the dedifferentiated leiomyosarcoma is well recognized in the soft parts, there are only a few reports of dedifferentiation of leiomyosarcoma in the uterus. Herein we present a case of dedifferentiated uterine leiomyosarcoma and discuss its relation to the undifferentiated uterine sarcoma....

Consecutive patients treated for rectal cancer or adenomas in 4 colorectal centers in Brazil were included. Patients with early-stage rectal cancer identified by 3D-US were assigned to receive resection only, and those with a later stage were assigned to receive CRT. A second 3D-US was performed after CRT to detect the presence of residual tumor and metastatic lymph nodes or complete response....

Article Type: Case Report | First Published: November 28, 2016
Air embolism during gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures is a rare phenomenon but can lead to a catastrophic and fatal event resulting from cardiovascular collapse and neurological injury. Oftentimes, the diagnosis is difficult because the cardiovascular and neurologic symptoms are not specific to systemic air embolism. High index of suspicion with early recognition and treatment is crucial in improving patient outcome....

Aedes albopictus, the Asian tiger mosquito, has lately become prominent, globally, while showing a marked "migratory" capacity. We have scrutinized the many consequences of the encounters between the Asian tiger mosquito and humans, and have chosen to review several of them. A 68-year-old man with sigmoid carcinoma was initially treated by surgical resection and adjuvant chemotherapy. Two years later, he was admitted to the hospital for recurrence of his disease with iliac parietal nodules and nodules in the recto-vesical pouch. Follow-up imaging with 18-Fluoro-2-Deoxy-D-Glucose Positron Emission Tomography (18-FDG PET) showed a focal increased uptake in the left side of the neck at the level of the thyroid gland and the absence of lung or liver metastases....
