Prof. Alfio Ferlito is formerly Director of the Department of Surgical Sciences at the University of Udine School of Medicine from 2003 to 2009 and Professor and Chairman of the ENT Clinic at the same University from 1997 to 2013. He graduated in medicine at the University of Bologna in 1968. He completed his residence programme in otolaryngology and subsequently in pathology. He worked at the ENT Department of Padua University from 1970 to 1997. Prof. Ferlito has collaborated in writing articles, editorials, commentaries, consensus statements, letters to the editor, special issues, book chapters and books


Prof. Alfio Ferlito is formerly Director of the Department of Surgical Sciences at the University of Udine School of Medicine from 2003 to 2009 and Professor and Chairman of the ENT Clinic at the same University from 1997 to 2013. He graduated in medicine at the University of Bologna in 1968. He completed his residence programme in otolaryngology and subsequently in pathology. He worked at the ENT Department of Padua University from 1970 to 1997. Prof. Ferlito has collaborated in writing articles, editorials, commentaries, consensus statements, letters to the editor, special issues, book chapters and books with 600 international experts. Prof.Ferlito has been author or co-author of 590 referred publications in 55 medical journals and 54 chapters in various books. Prof. Ferlito has been honored with several distinctions from professional ENT Societies including two Presidential Citations from the American Laryngological Association for his contributions made to the field of laryngology and the association. He has been appointed as the International Liaison for Corresponding Fellows of the American Laryngological Association. He is also a Fellowship External Examiner in Otorhinolaryngology at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Since 2009 he is Coordinator of the International Head Neck Scientific Group (www.IHNSG.com). Prof. Ferlito has delivered prestigious lectures all over the world. In 2006 he gave the 2nd Morrison Lecture in San Francisco and the 19th Som Lecture in New York. He has divided his professional life between clinical practice, teaching and research. One of his chief interests is the promotion of international cooperation in head and neck surgery, oncology and cancer research.

He is the head and neck cancer Track Leader for the annual meeting for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) for the past 2 years, and is a member of the Head and Neck Committee for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN). His primary research interests: head and neck cancer, skull base tumors, CNS neoplasms, novel radiation sensitizers, radiosurgery, HPV-related cancers.

His translational research interests are identifying therapeutic biomarkers for targeted therapies and markers for the identification of cancerous and precancerous lesions in the head and neck. He is currently working with Drs. Ge Jin and Aaron Weinberg trying to elucidate the role of innate immune molecules in the development and progression of HPV related head and neck cancer. He is currently creating Case 4315 which is a newly developed bio-repository for the Head and Neck program at UHCMC. This will allow for improved multidisciplinary collaborations and multi-institutional grant development. He has done surgical missions in several countries around the world including east Africa where he was able to work with African otolaryngologists providing care and education to patients and physicians through the ENT International Outreach Program.

His research focus has been in the investigation of factors involved in healthcare disparity with a particular focus on head and neck cancer incidence in medically underserved communities. He is also actively involved in research of craniomaxillofacial trauma and anterior cranial base tumor pathology. Dr. Moore is the CEO and President of Health Education, Assessment and Leadership (HEAL), Inc. As the founder of this organization, he strives to educate the community on health issues, assess its needs and in the process build leaders from within the community to address those issues. In this position, he has created a free and affordable clinic which provides healthcare in underserved areas in an integrated fashion. Dr. Moore is the ecipient of the American Medical Association Foundation Pride in Profession, Excellence in Medicine Award and the 2011 Gold Foundation Award for Humanism in Medicine awarded from National Academy of Otolaryngology. He is the recent recipient of the Zenith Award for Community Activism from the City of Atlanta and the Rollins School of Public Health, Goizueta Business School Martin Luther King Community Service Award Recipient for his work in impoverished communities.

Seiji Nakagawa was born in Fukuoka, Japan on July 8, 1971. He received a Ph.D. degree in biomedical/electronic engineering from the University of Tokyo and joined Electrotechnical Laboratory (ETL) in 1999. Since 2011, he has been a Chief Senior Research Scientist at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). He also serves as an Adjoint Professor at Nara Medical University and Kansai University. Seiji Nakagawa was born in Fukuoka, Japan on July 8, 1971. He received a Ph.D. degree in biomedical/electronic engineering from the University of Tokyo and joined Electrotechnical Laboratory (ETL) in 1999. Since 2011, he has been a Chief Senior Research Scientist at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). He also serves as an Adjoint Professor at Nara Medical University and Kansai University. His current research interests are in the imaging of auditory function in humans and developments of medical and welfare equipments. He was awarded the Ogino Award, the Docomo Mobile Science Prize, the Ichimura Award, the Nature medicine-Anges MG Biomedical Award, and the Young Scientists' Prize at the Commendation for Science and Technology by Japanese government.
