Article Type: Case Report | First Published: February 22, 2016
Meckel's diverticulum is one of the most common congenital malformations of the small intestine and it results from an incomplete obliteration of the omphalomesenteric or vitelline duct. The position of Meckel's divericulum along the length of the small intestine is variable, but is usually found within 100cm of the ileocecal valve. Perforated Meckel's diverticulum is a rare complication during pregnancy. Its presentation is similar to appendicitis and its diagnosis must be considered in all cas...

A Rare Case of Acute Pseudo-Meigs' Syndrome Presenting with Pleural Effusion and Ascites and a Ruptured Leiomyoma and Hemorrhagic Shock
Matthew Cowan, Janine Crantz, Stephanie Welsh, William Nahhas and Steven R Lindheim
Article Type: Case Report | First Published: January 28, 2016
Meigs' Syndrome is classically described as a triad of benign solid ovarian tumor with the gross appearance of a fibroma (either a fibroma, thecoma, or granulosa cell tumor) accompanied with ascites and pleural effusion. In contrast, pseudo-Meigs' Syndrome presents with ascites and pleural effusion but with any other pelvic mass, including mature teratomas, struma ovarii, and leiomyomata of the ovary, fallopian tube, or uterus....

The AIDS Myth at 30
Erhard Geissler
Article Type: Short Review | First Published: March 03, 2016
In 1985 the KGB and East Berlin's professor of Biology started the AIDS disinformation campaign by accusing the United States of America of having constructed and spread the AIDS agent in the course of biological weapons research. Now, 30 years later, a German authority, The Federal Commissioner for the Records of former East Germany's State Security Service, the "Stasi", is spreading disinformation regarding the alleged substantial involvement of Stasi officers in the campaign....

With the increasing success of heart transplantation, older and higher-risk donors and recipients are being accepted for transplantation. The risk of primary graft dysfunction (PGD) is thus increased. We investigated a 'pharmacological conditioning' strategy, where Celsior preservation solution supplemented with glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) and erythropoietin (EPO) was used for cardioplegia and hypothermic storage, and determined graft recovery and patient survival after cardiac transplantation....

Circulating Progenitor Cells in Regenerative Technologies: A Realistic Strategy in Bone Regeneration?
Jessica B. Chang and Justine C. Lee
Article Type: Review Article | First Published: February 26, 2016
The regeneration of bone is a complex physiological process involved in fracture healing as well as defects created by trauma, infection, tumor resection, congenital abnormalities, and impaired or insufficient regeneration. Various bone regeneration and repair strategies exist to augment surgical reconstructive procedures, including use of alloplastic and allogenic materials, distraction osteogenesis, osteoconductive scaffolds, and bone morphogenetic proteins....

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: March 16, 2016
A total of 22 dogs of both sexes (5-7 years old) were divided into two groups: 10 in control and 12 in ablation group. Multiple radial-linear lesions were created from PV orifice to peri-PV area in the dogs with CARTO guidance. The control animals went through the same procedure except ablation. AF inducibility was evaluated before and immediately after the procedure. All animals had inducible AF (100%) by atrial pacing combined with or without isoproterenol at baseline....
