Jae-Jin Kwak, Joon Hyung Doh and Sung Yun Lee

Article Type: CASE REPORT | First Published: February 27, 2019

Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome can develop paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) or/and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF). AF in WPW syndrome is a potentially life-threatening arrhythmia. Radiofrequency catheter ablation is recommended in patients with AF in WPW syndrome. Atrioventricular nodal blockers can precipitate ventricular fibrillation and should not be used. We present patients with PSVT and AF in WPW syndrome who was treated with bisoprolol and flecainide. ...

Nasuhi Engin Aydin, MD, Haktan Altinova, MD

Article Type: IMAGE ARTICLE | First Published: February 27, 2019

A 58-year-old poorly controlled diabetic and hypertensive male patient with ketoasidosis was admitted to the ENT clinic due to ptosis and edema of left eyelid and facial pain of nine days. Paranasal sinus CT revealed destruction of the left maxillary, ethmoid and sphenoid sinuses. MRI also showed erosion of the lateral, medial and inferior orbital walls. Surgical debridement of the sinuses and left nasal cavity were performed following a rapid endoscopic diagnostic biopsy from the necrotic tissu...

Article Type: ORIGINAL ARTICLE | First Published: February 27, 2019

We aimed to research whether there was a difference in terms of the 2:4 finger ratio between women with hirsutism and healthy women without hirsutism and the correlation between degree of hirsutism and 2:4 finger ratios and clinically evaluated our results. Our study included 144 voluntary women (control group: 51, study group: 93) with ages from 18 to 38 years. The hirsutism level of patients was assessed using the Ferriman-Gallway scale with points given from 0 to 4 in 9 body regions. All pati...

Article Type: CASE REPORT | First Published: February 27, 2019

A 10-year-old male was admitted to our hospital after worsening right-sided neck lymphadenitis and fever of 39.8 ℃ (103.6 ℉) of 7 days duration. He had been admitted to an outside facility and treated for 3 days with intravenous (IV) ampicillin/sulbactam and clindamycin, where a computed tomography (CT) revealed right sided lymphadenitis with no abscess formation. Blood and throat cultures showed no growth. Upon admission to our hospital, he had right neck swelling with tenderness and erythe...

Article Type: CASE REPORT | First Published: February 26, 2019

A 30-year-old healthy man was brought to our level-one trauma center after a high-velocity trauma. While riding a quad he was hit by a car with about 60 km/h. Initial scores of Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and injury severity score (ISS) were 15. Extremity trauma with moderate craniocerebral injury and abdominal trauma with splenic and hepatic laceration was diagnosed. During follow up on the intensive care unit (ICU) the patient reported unspecific abdominal pain and dyspnea. Sonographic controls o...

There is limited knowledge about determinants of chronic bronchitis (CB) among Aboriginal children and adolescents in Canada. The objective of the study was to determine the prevalence and associated risk factors of chronic bronchitis in Aboriginal children (6-11 yrs.) and adolescents (12-19 yrs.). Canadian Aboriginal Peoples Survey (APS)-2012 data were analyzed. Logistic regression analysis with appropriate weight variable to estimate regression coefficient and the balanced repeated replicatio...

Diagnostics that combine imaging techniques such as PET and MRI could enhance disease detection and location if effective multimodal contrast agents can be developed. A nanoparticle called AGuIX has been developed that is comprised of gadolinium-bound by chelates and additional free chelates that can be further labelled with radioactive isotopes enabling both PET and MRI imaging. Herein, we describe the size characterization of these nanoparticles together with their size distribution, which is ...
