Ying Guo, J Lynn Palmer, Xun S Brown and Jack Fu
Article Type: Review Article | First Published: August 21, 2015
The amplitude of Sensory Nerve Action Potentials (SNAPs), as an indicator for the amount of peripheral sensory nerve axon, is important in the diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy. Since the sural and radial nerves are at low risk for compressive injury, the sural and radial SNAPs are especially useful in the electrodiagnosis of polyneuropathy....

Hepatic Arterioportal Fistulae: Two Case Reports and Review of the Literature
Thanh Tran, Marc Burrell and William M. Lee
Article Type: Case Report | First Published: August 20, 2015
Hepatic arterio portal fistulae are inappropriate connections between the hepatic artery and portal vein and are obscure causes of acquired portal hypertension. There have been a small number of cases reported since it was first described in 1892 by Sachs. These fistulae can cause significant morbidity and mortality as a result of the portal hypertension, but unlike cirrhosis, are potentially curable. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment is important. The two cases presented here illustrate ...

Article Type: Case Report | First Published: August 30, 2015
Primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) localized in the large intestine is extremely rare. We report a first case of MFH in colon that underwent a laparoscopy-assisted colectomy. A 74-year-old female had a 3-month history of blood stool. Barium enema study showed protrusion in the descending colon. Colonoscopy revealed submucosal tumor-like lesion with central ulceration. A biopsy was obtained and the pathological report was that MFH was suspected. Laparoscopic-assisted left hemicolectomy ...

Background: Due to advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment, the number of prostate cancer survivors is increasing. Yet, with this expanding cohort of patients, very little has been done to develop services.
Objective: A systematic review was conducted to explore prostate cancer survivorship issues. This analysis will inform development of interventions.
Discussion: The literature is reviewed and the way forward for survivorship discussed. We also identify possible themes for research....

Relationship between Full-Thickness Macular Hole and Retinal Break/Lattice Degeneration
Jinglin Zhang, Yonghao Li, Xiujuan Zhao, Yu Cai, Xiling Yu and Lin Lu
Article Type: Research Article | First Published: September 02, 2015
The pathogenesis of full-thickness Macular Hole (MH) is not clearly understood but is believed to involve anteroposterior traction and/or tangential traction exerted by the posterior vitreous cortex at the fovea. Retinal Break (RB) and lattice degeneration are one of the most important abnormalities of vitreous and vitreoretinal interface. To figure out the relationship between the full-thickness macular hole and RB/lattice degeneration may contribute to the understanding of their pathogenesis.....

Article Type: Original Article | First Published: September 05, 2015
Elder abuse, also referred to as elder mistreatment or elder maltreatment, is an important public health and human rights issue. The prevalence of elder abuse ranges from 2.2% to 61.1% around the world. Should We Use Various Obesity Measures Interchangeably?
Shuman Yang
Article Type: Short Note | First Published: August 18, 2015
In clinical setting or clinical research studies, convenient obesity measures such as body weight and Body Mass Index (BMI) are commonly used to quantify obesity status of patients or research participants. Although these obesity data are easy and cheap to collect, they may have problems as compared to other obesity measures....

Should Potential Micronutrient Deficiencies be evaluated when designing Weight Loss Interventions for Obese Individuals?
Nath A, Shope TR, and Koch TR
Article Type: Mini Review | First Published: August 21, 2015
Malnutrition is considered to be a condition that develops when individuals do not receive adequate quantities of energy-providing nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and water. Inadequate intake does not permit the maintenance of physiologically normal tissue and organ function. Dietary intake could be an origin for obesity, as well as an origin for the development of micronutrient deficiencies. The National Research Council has reported that more than 80% of Americans consume a diet that is below t...

A 32-year-old primiparous woman was diagnosed of diaphragmatic hernia at 29 weeks' gestation and transferred to our hospital. Initially, gastrointestinal symptoms mimicked pathology related to pregnancy, but failure of conservative measures led to performing imaging tests. It was a Bochdalek hernia containing small bowel loops, colon and omentum but not stomach. She was stabilized, but finally cesarean delivery and hernia repair were performed at 32 weeks because of her symptoms, with a successf...
