Aim of this study was to assess the intermediate-term outcome after Bentall operation using a self-assembled bio-root conduit containing a 3F stentless valve. Between April 2010 and August, 2015, 30 patients affected by aortic root dilatation with aortic valve disease underwent Bentall operation at our Unit, using a conduit assembled by including a 3F® stentless valve into a straight woven tube graft. Mean age at surgery was 66.3 yrs. Mean Logistic EUROscore was 10.01. Mean pre-operative Ejecti...

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) and virulent pathogenic strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa) are among the most dangerous pathogens in healthcare-associated infections. In this study, a comparative analysis was performed on two clinical Pa strains from pneumonia patients, 1) An acute strain (CMC-115) and 2) A chronic multidrug- and carbapenemresistant strain (CMC-097) with distinct phenotypic and genetic characteristics. A transcriptome analysis using both the Pseudomonas DNA GeneChip microarray and...

Chemotherapy-induced severe hyponatremia is a lifethreatening condition. Platinum-based agents play a key role in ovarian cancer treatment, but they are more likely to cause hyponatremia than other anti-cancer agents. The optimal strategy for treating ovarian cancer in the case of severe hyponatremia induced by the platinum agent remains unclear. We report the case of 77-year-old women with multiple peritoneal recurrences five years and eight months after surgery for ovarian clear cell carcinoma...

A 56-year-old African American, multiparous, postmenopausal woman presented with a cystic left adnexal mass found incidentally on her yearly transvaginal ultrasound to monitor fibroids. She had a known history of uterine leiomyomas for which she had not required treatment. Her only previous abdominal surgery was a tubal ligation. Pelvic examination demonstrated a mobile, nontender uterus with a large palpable left adnexal mass that was smooth and mobile. A transvaginal ultrasound demonstrated a ...

Posterior circulation aneurysms are less common compared to the anterior circulation aneurysm. Dissection distal Posterior Inferior Cerebellar Artery, PICA, aneurysm is very uncommon. In this case report, we describe an adult who had distal PICA aneurysm in the 4th ventricle which radiologically and symptomatically mimics a fourth ventricular mass lesion. Our aim is to add to the literature about rare but possible differential diagnosis of 4th ventricular tumour. A 43-year-old lady presented wit...
