Intra Capsular but Extra Synovial Foreign Body in the Knee Joint
Gunasekaran Kumar
Article Type: Case Report | First Published: July 11, 2018
Intra-articular foreign bodies especially in the knee joint are well reported. Knee joint is commonly involved due to the large joint area and also due to it being a superficial joint. Foreign bodies enter the joint either by direct inoculation or migration from nearby tissues. Potential complications of intra articular foreign bodies include infection, damage to articular surface and locking of joint. This is a report on a penetrating injury to the knee resulting in an intra capsular but extra ...

Nutritional and Pharmacological Strategies of Bodybuilders in Preparation Period for Competition
Amanda Assenheimer, Igor Brandao, Mauricio Schüler Nin and Rafael Longhi
Article Type: Research Article | First Published: July 09, 2018
Fifteen athletes were evaluated: 60% (n = 9) males and 40% (n = 6) females, with a mean age of 27 years. Regarding nutrients, carbohydrates had a mean intake of 1.68 g/kg body weight, mean protein content was 3.68 g/kg body weight, and lipids were 20.4% of the Total Energy Value. Protein and lipid intakes were not statistically significant, but when the carbohydrate consumption was compared, there was a statistical difference between the sample values and the recommended ranges. The use of Anabo...

Temporary External Fixation for Forearm Fractures in Damage Control Orthopedics Procedures: Use of a Simplified Frame
Laurent Mathieu, Antoine Grosset, Ismael Hassan Farah, Nicolas de l'Escalopier, James-Charles Murison and Sylvain Rigal
Article Type: Case Report | First Published: July 06, 2018
External fixation of the forearm may be indicated for Gustilo grade 3B-C open fractures or in unstable polytraumatized patients as part of a damage-control orthopedics (DCO) strategy to prepare secondary conversion to internal fixation by plates. Because conventional forearm frames with separate stabilization of the radius and ulna do not meet DCO requirements, the authors propose to use a single unilateral frame. A case of severe forearm open fracture related to a gunshot wound is presented to ...

Clinical Course and Sustained Remission in Rheumatoid Arthritis
Mariana Lagrutta, Roberto Leandro Parodi and Alcides Alejandro Greca
Article Type: Short Review | First Published: July 05, 2018
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an inflammatory, multisystemic autoimmune disease. It has been described as an often progressive chronic disease, characterized by severe functional decline, radiographic progression, frequent work disability and premature mortality. Efforts have been made to identify among patients with peripheral inflammatory arthritis which patients will have a benign course, with spontaneous resolution, and which will develop a chronic progressive inflammatory disabling disease i...

Psoriasiform Sarcoidosis Presenting in Pregnancy and Treatment Considerations
Christian A Albornoz, Jordan V Wang and Matthew Keller
Article Type: Case Report | First Published: July 04, 2018
Cutaneous sarcoidosis is a common presentation for patients with sarcoidosis. Rarely, patients can present with psoriasiform lesions mimicking chronic plaque psoriasis. Here, we present a case of psoriasiform sarcoidosis in a pregnant patient. Pregnancy represents a unique challenge to systemic treatments if topical management fails. Tumor necrosis factor alpha inhibitors warrant special consideration during pregnancy....

Demonstrated Spatial Irrelevance of Gray Fox at Contaminated Sites: Are Ecological Risk Assessments for Mammals Necessary?
Lawrence V Tannenbaum, David M Bullis, Nicholas R Deuel, L Mike Conner, Michael J Chamberlain and Karl V Miller
Article Type: Research Article | First Published: June 30, 2018
Ecological risk assessments (ERAs) for contaminated terrestrial sites regularly include mammals as receptors-of-concern whose home ranges dwarf the sites by tens of times. As a consequence, opportunities to sustain chemical exposures of concern are greatly limited. In having notably miniscule densities as well, wide-ranging mammals are poorly selected species to evaluate because true populations are effectively non-existent at sites. Collectively, the case can be made that wide-ranging mammals a...

Homocysteine (Hcy) is an essential amino acid required for the growth of cells and tissues. Homocysteine (Hcy) is an intermediate product formed by the breakdown of methionine the aid of certain B-vitamins. Homocysteine remethylation to methionine is dependant on both folate and cobalamin (Figure 1) and may undergo transsulfuration to cysteine and cystathionine....
