Article Type: Case Report | First Published: August 04, 2 018

Skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) with Nontuberculous Mycobacteria (NTMs) are increasingly encountered in recent times. We describe a case of a chronic non-healing ulcer on the foot of a young immunocompetent lady caused by Mycobacterium simiae. The diagnostic approach and successful management of the case have been reviewed. This is probably the first case report SSTI due to M. simiae from India....

Most cases of pneumothorax comprise primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP), which usually occurs in young, tall men and results from rupture of subpleural blebs or bullae. Secondary spontaneous pneumothorax (SSP), on the other hand, is associated with an underlying lung disease, such as emphysema or asthma; acute or chronic infections; lung cancer; and congenital disease, including cystic fibrosis, catamenial pneumothorax, and lymphangioleiomyomatosis....

Foreign body ingestion is a very common reason for access to the Emergency Department and in most cases, it doesn't cause symptoms; in case of fishbones, intestinal perforation is rare but possible. In this report, besides the typical picture of bowel perforation, we found atypical symptoms due to the specific location. ...

Definitive diagnosis of oral lichen planus (OLP) is important for planning treatment. The problems and difficulties of diagnosing OLP based on histopathological features were showing inter- and intra-observer variability. In terms of pathological diagnosis on OLP, microvascular appearance was not highly valued. Comparative histomorphometric analysis of intraepithelial papillary capillary loops (IPCLs) of OLP was performed to investigate the potential for use as diagnostic criteria....

A 28-year-old Japanese woman complained of right chest pain, fever, and cough. Chest radiography revealed consolidation in her right lower lobe with a pleural effusion. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and treated with antibiotics, but her condition did not improve. She was referred to our hospital for evaluation. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a large saddle filling defect extending into the right pulmonary artery as well as the proximal lower lobe pulmonary artery bran...

Article Type: Case Report | First Published: July 26, 2018

Lower extremities nerves damage is a known complication of prostatectomies. Lumbar sympathetic block is a well-established treatment for sympathetically-mediated lower extremity pain. We report a case of bilateral lower extremity pain in a femoral distribution that developed after a robotic assisted prostatectomy and resolved after a lumbar sympathetic block....

Mycotic keratitis has been reported from many different parts of the world, with a worldwide incidence varying from 17% to 36% in various studies. It is particularly common in tropical areas, where the incidence ranges between 14%-40% of all ocular mycoses. Early diagnosis is highly important in every patient with the corneal lesion because infectious keratitis caused by various organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, or Acanthamoeba the leading cause of monocular blindness....

There are two categories or generations of autologous platelets concentrate (APC). The first generation or gels rich in growth factors (GFs) are obtained using anticoagulants and require subsequent platelet activation through the addition of thrombin or calcium chloride. In this group is the platelet-rich plasma (PRP)....

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: July 23, 2018

Omentin, fatty acid binding protein-4 (FABP-4), chemerin and irisin are chemokines whose circulating levels are altered in insulin resistant states. However, there is limited insight into function of these chemokines as well as the potential role of insulin in the modulation of these chemokines. We tested the hypothesis that insulin alters these chemokines by measuring changes in their circulating levels in response to elevated insulin in a group of healthy non-obese subjects....
