Effectiveness of Shade Measurements Using a Scanning and Computer Software System: a Pilot Study

Gotfredsen K, Gram M, Ben Brahem E, Hosseini M, Petkov M and Sitorovic M

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: April 25, 2015

The esthetic result has become more attention and one important aspect to obtain a good esthetic result is to obtain the most optimal shade of the prosthetic reconstruction. The shade is of greatest importance when patients judge the quality of the restoration especially in the anterior region. The ideal shade is the shade from the natural, neighboring teeth....

Application of Multiple Novel Imaging Modalities for Guidance and Treatment of the Patient with Subaortic Stenosis

Xiaomei Lin, Howard Axelrod, Bruno Dantas, Patrick O'Beirne, Kenneth Khaw, Edward Wrobleski, John Saia, Gerald Ukrainski, Lannae Ewing, Chad Bousanti, Lawrence J Wehner and Jingsheng Zheng

Article Type: Case Report | First Published: April 30, 2015

Discrete Subvalvar Aortic Stenosis (DSS) is an uncommon acquired cause of left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (LVOT) and often found during Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE). The membranes are located adjacent to the Aortic Valve (AV) or extended to the anterior leaflet of the mitral valve. The high-velocity systolic jet collides and damages the AV leaflets making the valve more likely to fail and more susceptible to clot and vegetation formation....

Anomalous Right Coronary Artery Arising from the Ascending Aorta Above the Left Sinus of Valsalva in the Setting of Acute Inferior ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction: Unique Challenges and Literature Review

Nisharahmed Kherada, Sandeep Singla, Saqib Ali Gowani, Francesca Gallarello and Nirat Beohar

Article Type: Case Report | First Published: May 02, 2015

Anomalous origin of the right coronary artery arising from ascending aorta above the left sinus of Valsalva is an extremely rare coronary anomaly. In the setting of an acute myocardial infarction rapid identification, localization and selective cannulation of this 'culprit' anomalous right coronary artery presents a challenging scenario. Here we describe a case with this anomaly presenting as an acute inferior wall myocardial infarction along with description of its distinctive interventional ch...

A preterm boy of 30 weeks and fie days did not breathe spontaneously at birth and despite visualization of the vocal cords, intubation attempts did not succeed, until a tube 2.0 was placed using an Eschmann stylette, mistakenly considered endotracheal. A few hours later, suspicion of tube dislocation arose and renewed intubation attempts failed. The ENT specialist performed a tracheoscopy and found a blind ending of the trachea in the subglottic area....

Patrick T Reeves, Axel G Moreira, Tochi M Amagwula, Toy G Lee, Dominique D Washington, AkilaMuthukumar and John Y Phelps

Article Type: Case Report | First Published: May 04, 2015

Swyer syndrome or XY gonadal dysgenesis is caused by genetic mutations in testis-determining factors, such as the SRY gene, that lead to streak gonads in phenotypical females. The following case demonstrates a patient with a 7q11 microdeletion, a region which governs the coding of a transcription regulator called Zinc Finger 92 (ZNF92)....

Histological Findings in the Kernicterus-Associated Vulnerable Brain Regions are Linked to Neurodegeneration, Alterations in Astrocyte and Pericyte Distribution, and Vascular Modifications

Ines Palmela, Pedro Pereira, Masaharu Hayashi, Dora Brites and Maria A. Brito

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: April 29, 2015

Kernicterus is a severe manifestation of neonatal unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia. We investigated the neuro-glia-vascular alterations in autopsy material from three infants with kernicterus. Histological and immunohistochemical studies were performed in the cerebellum, hippocampus and basal ganglia, the most vulnerable brain regions to bilirubin-induced neurotoxicity. The data obtained were compared with the relatively spared temporal cortex, as well as with three aged-matched controls with no ...

Marisa Censani, Vivian L Chin and Ilene Fennoy

Article Type: Case Report | First Published: May 06, 2015

Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist Exenatide is an incretin mimetic approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 2005 as an adjunct to diet and exercise for glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Improvements in cardiometabolic risk factors and weight in type 2 diabetes patients using Exenatide are well described in adults; however, reports in adolescents are limited to non-diabetic youth with obesity....

Haemoglobin Electrophoretic Patterns, ABO and Rhesus D Blood Groups Distribution among Antenatal Women in Sokoto, Nigeria

Udomah FP, Isaac IZ, Aliyu N, Erhabor O, Ahmed MH, Yakubu A, Hassan M and John RT

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: April 23, 2015

All human red blood cells contain a pigmented metalloprotein called haemoglobin which is of different types. Hemoglobin is the oxygen carrying pigment of the red blood cells. Defects in its genes can produce abnormal haemoglobin which leads to conditions known as haemoglobinopathies. Haemoglobin electrophoretic patterns include the normal haemoglobin which is the most prevalent and is referred to as hemoglobin A (HbA) and other abnormal ones also exist, like hemoglobin S (HbS), which is a varian...

Article Type: Editorial | First Published: March 06, 2015

Th true role of donor-specific human leukocyte antigen (HLA) antibody (DSA) response to a solid allograft is not fully understood. Recently, new serum-screening assays (mainly based in the luminex technology) have strongly increased and defined the detection and specificity analysis of DSA in allosensitized patients in waiting list of transplantation or in transplanted recipients....
