Barrier contraceptive method is a strategy that prevents both unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. Predictors for using barrier methods are not well studied in the area. A facility based cross-sectional study was employed. Data were collected through interviewer interview using structured and semi-structured questionnaires. Simple random sampling technique from patient registration book was used to select participants. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed using SPSS version 20.0. Adjusted odds ratio with 95% CI was used quantify degree of a...

Odds of Meeting Physical Activity Guidelines by Cancer History: Updated Results from the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS)

Christine M. Swoboda, PhD, MS, Ann Scheck McAlearney, ScD, MS and Timothy Huerta, PhD, MS

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: September 13, 2019

Despite proven benefits of physical activity, adults in the United States may not be meeting activity guidelines for aerobic and strength exercise. There is an association between physical activity and reduced cancer risk, and reduced risk of reoccurrence among cancer survivors. This study aims to describe the odds of meeting aerobic, strength, and combined levels of physical activity based on the recommendations of the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans among adults in the U.S., making comparisons by cancer status and demographics. Logistic regression of cross-sectional data from Cy...

Psychosocial Impact of Rosacea on Women

Mohammed Al Abadie, Farlin Asharaff and Dina Al Abadie

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: September 09, 2019

Rosacea is found in approximately 10% of the general population and is known to mainly affect people from 30 to 60 years of age. It is more prevalent in female population as opposed to male population (with the exception of phymatous rosacea where majority of affected patients are adult male). A 2012 study consisting of 60,042 patients in the United Kingdom identified that 61.5% of patients with rosacea was female. Further studies suggest that rosacea has a greater impact on quality of life of female population compared to male, as female are more prone to distorted perceptions of their body i...

Depression is a major mental issue affecting people of all ages around the world. According to The World Health Organization (WHO), depression will probably be the first risk factor contributing to illness, and is expected to be the instrumental reason for the highest disability levels surpassing any physical or mental disorder in the world. Simultaneous Rupture of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament, Medial Collateral Ligament and Patellar Tendon: A Case Series, Review of the Literature, and Proposed Treatment Algorithm

Matthew Quinn, Nicholas Lemme, Anna King DO and Ramin R. Tabaddor

Article Type: Case Report | First Published: September 25, 2019

Patellar Tendon (PT) rupture in combination with an anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACL) +/- a Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) injury is a rarely reported injury pattern. We report the cases of three athletes who sustained simul-taneous rupture of their PT, ACL and MCL while competing. They were treated in a staged manner with acute pri-mary repair of the patellar tendon and MCL followed by a rehabilitation period. Reconstruction of the ACL was performed once range of motion and strength of the extensor mechanism was sufficient. At one year follow up each patient had an IKDC score of > 80 ...

Acute Heart Rate Responses to Resistance Exercise at Different Cadences

Marc R Apkarian

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: September 21, 2019

The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether movement speed, or cadence, affects the heart rate (HR) response to three sets of 10 repetitions of resistance exercise at slow (6 seconds/repetition) and fast (2 seconds/repetition) cadences. When three sets of 10 repetitions are performed on the angled leg press at a slow cadence, a significant increase in peak HR occurs for the sets, while the fast cadence does not demonstrate an increase in peak HR values. The is presumed in part due to influences of the pressor response, and the longer work duration for the slow cadence of 60 seconds requ...

Radiation Dose Reduction Comparing Dual Axis Rotational Coronary Angiography against Conventional Coronary Angiography in a Population with 100% Suspected Coronary Artery Disease: A Randomized Trial

Jorge Szarfer

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: September 16, 2019

We sought to compare the radiation dose, contrast volume, and procedure time between dual-axis rotational coronary angiography (DARCA) and conventional coronary angiography (CCA) techniques in a setting characterized by a prevalence of 100% suspected coronary artery disease. All-comers, prospective, randomized, open-label trial. Cine acquisition dose-area product (DAP), cumulative Air Kerma (AK), effective dose (E), fluoroscopic time, contrast volume, AK, cine acquisition DAP (CADAP), fluoroscopic DAP (F-DAP) and total DAP were compared between DARCA and CCA groups. ...

Epidemiology of Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) in the United States: A Need for Newborn Screening

Yana Puckett, MD, MPH, Theophilus Pham, MBA, Eileen Bui, Laurie Turner and Alan Zelicoff, MD

Article Type: Original Article | First Published: September 16, 2019

Previous studies on the incidence and prevalence of the various types of mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) in different populations have shown considerable variation. Furthermore, most information pertaining to the incidence of MPS comes from other countries. In this study, we aimed to identify the incidence of MPS in the United States (U.S.). We also examine the epidemiological and clinical importance of including MPS on newborn screening panels. We performed a retrospective epidemiological study by using the database from the National MPS Society that included year of birth, year of death, and M...
