Cambodian Ministry of Health (MoH) is working towards the elimination of mother-to-child transmission (eMTCT) of HIV by 2025. According to national policy, following the antiretroviral therapy for HIV-positive pregnant women (PW), HIV-exposed infants (HEI) are given antiretroviral prophylaxis for six weeks (PMTCT Guideline 2011), followed by a first PCR test (PCR1) and cotrimoxazole (CTX) prophylaxis at six weeks of age, and later followed with an HIV-antibody test (AB-Test) at 18 months. Migrated Esophageal Stent Endoscopic Extraction through Gastrostomy Site in a Patient with Severe Esophageal Stricture

Claire M Shin and Steven B Clayton

Article Type: Case Report | First Published: April 18, 2019

A 36-year-old woman with a history of benign refractory esophageal stricture from gastroesophageal reflux disease was treated with anesophageal stent and a gastrostomy tube 2 months prior to presenting with acute dysphagia and odynophagia. Esophagram and upper endoscopy revealed esophageal stent migration into the stomach and a pinpoint stricture of the distal third of the esophagus, which made retrograde extraction unfeasible. The stent was successfully extracted through the pre-existing gastro...

Of the 96 patients included in the study, 58 were adenocarcinomas, 30 were squamous cell carcinomas (SCC), and 8 were large cell neuroendocrine carcinomas (LCNEC). While EGFR mutation was detected in 14 (24.1%) of the adenocarcinoma patients, KRAS mutation was detected in 12 (20.6%) patients. BRAF mutation was observed in 1 patient with adenocarcinoma (1.7%). KRAS mutation was observed in only 1 of the SCCs (3.3%). KRAS mutation was observed in 1 of the LCNECs (12.5%). EGFR mutation in adenocarc...

Adherence to the Mediterranean diet was found to be average for the majority of young adults, with 21.8% being classified as low adherers, and 26.9% as high adherers. A higher health habit score was associated with higher adherence to the Mediterranean diet (0.614 higher average adherence (95% CI: 1.07 to 1.55) for one unit change in health habit score). About 63% of students reported consuming breakfast on a regular basis, while half consumed three or fewer meals per day. The main person respon...

Common Factors among Some of the Reported Cases of the Spontaneous Remission and Regression of Cancer after Acute Infections

Behzad Niakan, Pharm D

Article Type: Hypotheses | First Published: April 25, 2019

An immunological mechanism has been suggested for the case reports of the spontaneous remission of cancer after an acute infection. The basic suggestion made is that a few acute inflammatory responses are occurring at about the same time in these cancer patients. Furthermore, it is suggested that a few acute inflammatory responses occurring at about the same time may negate the inhibitory effect of systemic inflammation on innate immunity. It is suggested that the activation of innate immunity c...
